The UIB’s Nautical Master’s Degree kicks off in October

In October, the UIB will relaunch, for the fourth consecutive year, the Master’s Degree in Nautical Studies. This is a proprietary program focused on the world of large vessel repair and general knowledge of the sector. The nautical studies at the UIB have received, since their creation, direct support from Astilleros de Mallorca, which designs and plans most of the content and subjects to be taught.

With a total of 150 in-person hours on the UIB campus, students will have the opportunity to meet some of the most relevant people in the repair industry, who will share their professional experiences in a constantly growing sector.

Some of the topics to be covered in the course include: history of navigation, the charter industry, the most common repairs, materials, corrosion, preventive actions, osmosis, fiberglass repair, wood, traditional vessels, paints, defect detection, rigging, knots, air conditioning, drinking water, engines, breakdowns, electric motors, engine room, shipyard regulations, legislation, insurance, certifications, budgeting and invoicing, cranes and haul-outs, project management, etc. All of this will be complemented by various visits to boats, shipyards, and dry docks, as well as outings at sea.

The course will be taught in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Anselm Turmeda building at the UIB. There are 25 available places, and enrollment will be open until early October or until all places are filled. Finally, it is worth noting that the nautical courses at the UIB are 100% subsidizable for companies that register their employees.
